Roanoke Cultural Collective invites families to honor Juneteenth at Eureka Park
Roanoke, Virginia – Honoring Juneteenth, an invitation has been extended for a familial gathering at Eureka Park, Roanoke, graciously facilitated by the Roanoke Cultural Collective.
This eminent event is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, and the proceedings will span from noon until 5 p.m.
Attendees, comprising of families and community members, are promised an enriching day replete with various elements of culture—music, dance, culinary delights, and history.
The event will commence with a spiritually invigorating activity—a ‘breakfast of prayer’. This inaugural segment is a heartfelt request put forth by the ‘Mother of Juneteenth’. The remainder of the day will be filled with a series of performances, spotlighting a range of local organizations such as Angels of Zion, Explosion Athletics, and Custom Vibes.
In a display of community service, the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office will be distributing complimentary food, specifically catered to the younger attendees.
The Arts and Culture Lead for the Roanoke Cultural Collective, Bernadette Lark, offered her perspective on the event. She shared, “This weekend, we want to be such an inspiration to encourage people to come out in the community, participate, but know that it is safe and accessible. We want to bring back the optimism that it is okay to come out and gather and know that we are in this together.”
Lark imparts practical advice to prospective attendees of the event, advising them to bring their own seating or picnic blankets for comfort. Encouraging all to plan for an enjoyable time, she reiterates the objective of the gathering—to foster a sense of community and shared enjoyment in the spirit of Juneteenth.
