Roanoke ranked second most dangerous city in the Commonwealth

Roanoke, Virginia – Assessments pertaining to residential life in Virginia have painted an unfavorable image of the Star City.

In 2021, Roanoke was named the second most dangerous place in the Commonwealth, only surpassed by Franklin. Moreover, Roanoke landed the 13th position on a list of the least desirable places to live in the state of Virginia, a list publicized in March of the current year.

Despite a population nearing 100,000 inhabitants and a job market stronger than many other listed cities, several negative factors have undermined the standing of the Magic City.

As per the survey, the region’s undesirability stems from a median home value of merely $135,100. Money Link posits that the homes in Roanoke do not attract demand due to a high crime rate making the “Noke” an unattractive place for residence.

Interestingly, several nearby locations, deemed the safest in the state, have lower median incomes, such as Bedford, whose average income is $36,971, and it is ranked 8th on the list of the best places to live.

The survey shows that the city witnessed 386 violent crimes, rendering it a risky place to live. It further notes that the likelihood of experiencing a robbery in Roanoke is 1 in 22.5 and indicates that the modest average family income of $44,230 annually could pose challenges for raising a family.
