Arrest made in connection with May 8 homicide, Roanoke police confirm

Roanoke, Virginia – Authorities from the Roanoke Police Department confirmed the arrest of an individual linked to a recent homicide that occurred on May 8.

The tragic incident unfolded on the 3800 block of Panorama Avenue NW. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered a man suffering from severe injuries in a nearby parking lot. Despite immediate medical attention, the man tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The arrested individual, Al-Sherrief M. Mahoney, a 40-year-old Roanoke resident, is now facing charges of second-degree murder in relation to the homicide. Throughout the course of the investigation, Mahoney emerged as a suspect, the police disclosed.

Following the identification of Mahoney as a suspect, detectives promptly secured a warrant for his arrest. The U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Mahoney on May 12, executing the arrest without any complications, as per the police’s statement.

The authorities have emphasized that this remains an active investigation, indicating that further developments may emerge in the coming days or weeks.
