Junior League of Roanoke Valley awards $56,900 in grants

Roanoke, Virginia – The distinguished Junior League of Roanoke Valley (JLRV) takes immense pride in announcing the generous allocation of $56,900 through their annual community grants program.

With a steadfast dedication to combating poverty, JLRV’s prime objective is to forge meaningful connections between the community and existing resources, while simultaneously dismantling barriers to essential services such as healthcare and food provision.

By fostering collaboration and cultivating partnerships across the Roanoke Valley, JLRV ensures that individuals have seamless access to the resources they require.

Each year, JLRV bestows three illustrious grants upon qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations: the Care That Counts Grant, the Community Focus Grant, and the Apel Family Grant. In a momentous announcement, JLRV is elated to disclose that they are fulfilling funding requests for eight esteemed organizations this year.

Community Focus Grant ($26,400):

  1. Children’s Miracle Network: A significant sum of $10,950 has been allocated for the procurement of car seats, ensuring the safe discharge of pediatric patients.
  2. Huddle Up Moms: A generous contribution of $10,450 has been granted to bolster the Mom H.A.V.E.N. (Harmonizing Access to Vital Educational Networks) initiative, which encompasses educational programming and the expansion of mental health training.
  3. Ronald McDonald House: A vital $5,000 has been earmarked to facilitate the replacement of the grease trap in the commercial kitchen situated at their primary location, ensuring the provision of meals for families with sick children receiving treatment at Roanoke area hospitals.

Care that Counts Grant ($25,500):

  1. Humble Hustle Company: A remarkable $14,600 has been allocated to cover two distinct funding requests – 1) a 12-month rental for The Collective, and 2) support for Humble Hikes and PRETTY Humble, which serve as after-school options for middle and elementary school students.
  2. Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Virginia: A vital $5,000 has been designated to assist with transportation costs for the acquisition of a minibus and/or minivan for their 9th Street location.
  3. Mill Mountain Theatre: A generous $5,000 has been granted to defray expenses and purchase books for their Young Audience Series tours, which are complimentary public shows featuring a reading component.
  4. Family Service of Roanoke Valley: A valuable $900 has been allocated to bolster nutritional funding care for children and youth participating in their programming.

Apel Family Grant ($5,000):

  1. The Rescue Mission of Roanoke, Inc.: A crucial sum of $5,000 has been granted to facilitate the purchase and update of laundry machines in their Family Shelter.
