Children learn about fire safety at the Eagle Rock Library, training held by Botetourt County first responders

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Virginia – Monday, first responders in Botetourt County taught kids about how to stay safe in case of a fire.

At the Eagle Rock Library, firefighters taught kids about fire safety in a way that was fun for them.

The crew talked about what to do if there was a fire or some other kind of emergency. Children learned how to stop, drop, and roll in case of a fire and what to do if one starts.

The deputy chief of the volunteer fire department in Eagle Rock talked about how many of the fires they put out could have been avoided.

Bobby Simmons said, “I think that kids sometimes take things a little more seriously than adults do.” “These kinds of things seem to stay with them for a long time. If we can get that message out and teach those things, we might be able to stop some fires.

Simmons also said that it’s important for kids to know what to do in case of a fire.
