Danville man wanted for robbery arrested on Friday after exchanging shots with local police

DANVILLE, Virginia – Barry Lewis Swanson, who is 39 years old, was arrested on Friday after he allegedly crashed a car while trying to get away from police in the 200 block of Greenwich Circle in Danville. Then, he was taken to a hospital to get help.

Swanson was wanted for a theft that happened earlier on Friday, and police found him on Parker Road. Police say that Swanson then shot at officers, so Danville police returned fire. The shooting didn’t hurt anyone.

Since a gun was fired by Danville Police, the investigation into the shooting is being done by Virginia State Police.
